The information sought by the Deputy in respect of earnings in 1978 is not immediately available. I am having it compiled and I will communicate with the Deputy as soon as possible. It would not be practicable to make a reliable estimate of the information sought in respect of earnings in the second half of 1979 as these will depend on factors not quantifiable in advance, such as the outcome of negotiations on pay, recruitment, levels of overtime, etc.
