Vol. 315 No. 16

Written Answers. - Waterford Water Supply.

44.

asked the Minister for the Environment the present stage of the proposal by Waterford's Corporation and County Council to extract large quantities of water from the rivers Mahon and Clodagh.

Contract documents for Stage 1 of the East Waterford Water Supply Scheme which involves the development of the Clodagh River as a source of water supply for the East Waterford area are at present under consideration in my Department. I cannot yet say when I will be in a position to convey a decision on their proposals to the local authority.

The development of the Mahon River as a source of supply will form a further stage of the scheme and I understand that the local authority are presently in the process of acquiring water rights to enable them to abstract the required quantities of water from the river.
