Vol. 315 No. 16

Written Answers. - Free Medical Care.

115.

asked the Minister for Health the estimated extra cost of supplying free medical care to all young persons under the age of 16 not presently covered by medical cards.

The extension of health services to all persons in this age group would involve a number of factors which cannot easily be costed in advance. Any estimate of the cost must therefore be regarded as speculative. Bearing this reservation in mind, it has been estimated that the cost of extending health services to all persons aged under 16 years may be of the order of £30 million in a full year.
