Vol. 315 No. 17

Committee on Procedure and Privileges: Interim Report.

1. On 13th February 1979 the Dáil agreed to the following motion:

That Dáil Éireann is of the opinion that the procedure for consideration by the Dáil of the Estimates for the Public Services ought to be reviewed and directs the Committee on Procedure and Privileges to consider and make recommendations within six months about such improvements, if any, which it considers desirable.

2. Pursuant to the direction of the Dáil the Committee has had under consideration the matter referred to it. However, it has not completed its deliberations and, in view of the adjournment of the Dáil to-day for the summer recess until 17 October, it will not be possible for the Committee to report back to the Dáil with its recommendations within the six months period stipulated in the motion.

3. The Committee accordingly requests the Dáil to extend the period by a further six months.

I move:

(1) That the interim report from the Committee on Procedure and Privileges be laid before the Dáil and that the report be printed,

(2) That the period for reporting back of the Committee in relation to its consideration of the procedure on the Estimates for Public Services be extended by a further six months.

Question put and agreed to.
