Vol. 316 No. 3

Written Answers. - Community Welfare Officers.

424.

asked the Minister for Health the number of community welfare officers employed by health boards in the Dublin area, if these are employed on a full-time basis, and the amount of training they receive in the proper implementation of the supplementary welfare scheme.

Excluding superintendents there are 65 community welfare officers employed by the Eastern Health Board and 52 of these are employed in the Dublin area. The Dublin officers are all employed on a full time basis. For community welfare officers appointed on a permanent basis the health board, in conjunction with the Institute of Public Administration, provides induction courses of two weeks duration covering the skills and information needed. Training for temporary staff is organised by assigning the appointee to work alongside an experienced officer.
