Vol. 316 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Leitrim County Hospital.

9.

asked the Minister for Health if he has approved of the decision of the North Western Health Board to convert the Leitrim County Hospital into a centre for orthopaedic services thus depriving Leitrim of its own county hospital.

An orthopaedic unit has been provided at Manorhamilton Hospital as a temporary measure pending completion of a permanent orthopaedic unit at Sligo General Hospital. The temporary unit at Manorhamilton, which was approved in March 1977, was necessary to meet an immediate problem regarding the provision of orthopaedic services for the North-Western Health Board area.

In addition to the orthopaedic service, general medical, maternity and paediatric services continue to be provided at Manorhamilton Hospital.

The future role of Manorhamilton Hospital will be considered in consultation with the health board on completion of the development of Sligo General Hospital.
