asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the total cost and location of office accommodation rented by his Department, if there are proposals for altering this policy and if he will indicate the factors that determine the selection of such accommodation particularly where there is a choice of venue available.

(b) The total cost of this accommodation is £1,184,090.43 a year.

(c) The practice has been and still is that office accommodation is acquired by renting, erection of new building or extension of existing buildings. There are no proposals to change this practice but the amount of office accommodation ac- quired by renting, by erection of new buildings or by extension of existing buildings can vary from time to time.

(d) The main factors which influence selection of accommodation are, the suitability of the venue by reference to the functions to be performed in the building, the distance from buildings in which related functions are carried out, suitability having regard to staff preferences and cost.
