Written Answers. - Shankill (Dublin) Post-Primary Education.

asked the Minister for Education if he will make a statement on the up-to-date position in relation to the provision of post-primary education at Shankill, County Dublin, with specific reference to (a) the purchase of a site, (b) the stage of physical planning reached, (c) the anticipated enrolment of boys and girls in each of the first 3 years, (d) the maximum enrolment, (e) the proposed management structure, (f) whether the school will have a sports hall, (g) the date on which construction of the school will commence and (h) the term in which it will open; and if he will meet a deputation from the Shankill Community Association to discuss possible management structures.

The answers to the Deputy's question are as follows:—

(a) A suitable site has been identified in Shankill and negotiations for its purchase are in progress.

(b) Planning of the school will commence as soon as these negotiations have been completed.

(c) The estimated enrolment in each of its first three years of operation is 200, 400 and 650 respectively.

(d) The school will have accommodation for 1,000 pupils eventually.

(e) A final decision has not yet been taken in relation to the form of the management structure of the school.

(f) It is intended that the plan for the school will include a physical education hall.

(g) Pending completion of the negotiations mentioned at (a) above it is not possible to indicate a date by which construction of the school may commence.

(h) The same consideration applies as at (g) above.

Arrangements are being made for officials of my Department to meet representatives of the Shankill Community Association in the near future.
