Vol. 317 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Donegal Sewerage Scheme.

19.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he is aware that a sewerage scheme now in progress at Falcarragh, County Donegal, will result in the discharge of sewage into the River Bavin with consequent pollution of the river and Ballyness Bay, a local tourist amenity.

The work at present in progress is an extension to the existing sewerage scheme. The method of disposal is by means of a tidal tank at the mouth of the River Bavin. This method has proved satisfactory and provision was made in the original design to take the increased discharge now proposed. The dilutions are adequate to accept these discharges and there does not appear to be any reason to expect that pollution of the river or bay will result.
