Vol. 317 No. 4

Written Answers. - Town Gas Industry.

443.

asked the Minister for Industry, Commerce and Energy if, in view of the public consumer disquiet concerning the service provided by the Dublin Alliance Gas Company and the existing annual State subsidy paid to this company, he will hold an open public inquiry into the organisation of the town gas industry in this country including the Dublin Alliance Gas Company and the future of the industry.

An interdepartmental committee have, at my instance, completed a comprehensive review of the town gas industry, including the Dublin Gas Company. I expect to receive their report in the very near future. When I have studied the report I will give consideration to the question of publication. In the circumstances I do not think that a form of public inquiry would be appropriate at this time.
