Vol. 317 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Limerick Housing

10.

asked the Minister for the Environment the number of applicants at present on the Limerick Corporation housing list and the number of new houses at present under construction.

11.

asked the Minister for the Environment the proposals, if any, to expedite the provision of local authority housing in Limerick city and if he will make a statement outlining the present and future house building programme of Limerick Corporation.

I propose with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle to take Questions Nos. 10 and 11 together.

The formulation of proposals for the provision of local authority housing in Limerick city is a matter for Limerick Corporation. There are no such proposals before me awaiting sanction at present.

I understand from the corporation that they have completed 32 dwellings so far this year; that work is in progress on 274 dwellings; that 89 dwellings are at tender stage; that plans are being prepared for schemes comprising 463 dwellings; and that they have land available for about 1,500 more dwellings. Their current planned programme, therefore, comprises 2,326 dwellings in all.

I understand from the corporation that they recently adopted a programme for the period from 1980 to 1984 which aims at 300 completions a year. I am informed by the corporation that there are 794 approved applicants on their waiting list.

12.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he will outline details of the proposals at present before his Department for the building of local authority houses in County Limerick and when sanction will be forthcoming.

No such proposal is before my Department.
