I have already approved the raising of the cost limit on individual small schemes to be carried out by local authorities under their small schemes programmes from £20,000 to £30,000 in respect of the 1979 and subsequent programmes.
The question of altering the limits is kept under constant review in my Department having regard to the capital allocation available for such purposes and the number and types of proposals being put forward by local authorities. The average cost of proposals put forward for the current year's programme was under £15,000.
