asked the Minister for Finance the percentage of farmers liable for income tax assessment in 1978 who paid no tax, the percentage who paid: under £100, between £100 and £300, between £300 and £700, between £700 and £1,000 and over £1,000.

377.

asked the Minister for Finance the percentage of farmers in the taxation net who paid less than £1,000 income tax in 1978.

I propose with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, to take Questions Nos. 376 and 377 together.

Statistics relating to income tax are not complied in such a manner as would enable the information requested by the Deputy to be given. However, the following is a summary of the results of a sample survey of some 400 farming cases assessed to income tax on their farming profits for the year 1978-79.
