asked the Minister for Finance the estimated number of employees who will pay PAYE tax in 1980 and the estimated number of these with earnings in excess of £8,000 per annum.

The number of employees expected to pay PAYE tax in 1980 was estimated prior to the budget to be in the region of 725,000. As a result of the provisions of the budget this number will now be reduced to 650,000.

The number with earnings in excess of £8,000 per annum is estimated to be 127,000.
