Vol. 319 No. 3

Written Answers. - Ballyfermot (Dublin) Vocational School Appointment.

206.

asked the Minister for Education the number of letters received in his Department from the vocational school at Kylemore Road, Ballyfermot, regarding the appointment of a permanent principal, the number of replies issued to the school, if his attention has been drawn to the threat of industrial action each week by the staff at the school until a permanent principal is appointed and, if in the circumstances, he will appoint a permanent principal without delay.

This school is conducted by the City of Dublin Vocational Education Committee and representations from the school in relation to the appointment of a principal teacher on a permanent basis would have been addressed to that committee. It was only on 6 March 1980 that my Department became aware for the first time that industrial action was threatened in connection with the matter.

On 14 March 1980 my Department issued a letter to the committee stating that it considered that in the interest of the school the committee should arrange for the return to his post as permanent principal of the school the teacher who had been seconded to other duties. It was considered that this return to duty should be affected as early as possible and in any event not later than 1 June 1980.
