Vol. 319 No. 4

Written Answers. - Insolvent Employers.

183.

asked the Minister for Labour the up-to-date position regarding the EEC directive relating to insolvent employers.

The proposed EEC directive on the approximation of the laws of the member states relating to the protection of employees in the event of the insolvency of their employer was agreed in principle by the Social Affairs Council of 15 May 1979.

As I indicated in reply to the Deputy's previous question on 22 November 1979, the text of the proposed directive is being brought to finality by the Council. Discussions have been more protracted than anticipated and it is now expected that the directive will be formally adopted in the coming months.
