Vol. 319 No. 8

Written Answers. - Irish People Living Abroad.

204.

asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if he will make a statement outlining the initiatives, if any, proposed by the Government with regard to increasing support for, and interest in, Irish people living abroad and the efforts, if any, being made to help expatriate Irish people to return to this country.

The existing facilities afforded by my Department for assistance to Irish citizens abroad are regarded as adequate having regard to the limitation in the geographical spread of our present diplomatic and consular representation. There is, of course, no bar on the return of Irish citizens to Ireland where they have free entry but in general no Exchequer funds exist specifically for such a purpose.
