Vol. 319 No. 8

Written Answers. - Formal Protest to Indian Government.

205.

asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if his attention has been drawn to a recent report of attack by security forces in India on a protest by blind people, if the Government made any inquiries about this incident and if he will make a formal protest on the matter to the Indian Government.

I have been informed of the incident to which the Deputy refers. I understand that the Indian Government expressed their deep regret at the incident and have set up a judicial inquiry into it. In the circumstances it would not be appropriate for the Government to make an approach in the matter.
