Vol. 319 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Bray Vocational School Hall.

11.

asked the Minister for Education the steps he is taking to provide a sports hall for the new vocational school in Bray. County Wicklow.

12.

asked the Minister for Education if a sports hall will be provided for the new vocational school in Bray. County Wicklow and when this will be operational.

With the permission of the Ceann Comhairle. I propose to take Questions Nos. 11 and 12 together.

It was not found possible to include Bray vocational school in the list of schools at which I have already approved the provision of physical education halls. I am not in a position at this stage to comment on the question of the provision of such a hall for the school at some future date.

Would the Minister say when the next list of allocations of sports halls to such schools is likely to be published by him, or when he is likely to take the next series of decisions on applicant schools?

I could not answer that question but if the Deputy cares to put down a question I will give him the information.

How were the sites for the different sports halls decided? Was there consultation with local authorities?

I prefer to call them physical education halls because we are talking in an educational context. In answer to a question in this House I outlined the criteria the Department took cognisance of before coming to a decision and that is on the record of the House.

As much as the Minister wanted to put it on the record of the House. It is on the record.

I do not understand that comment.

How did the Department manage to omit the entire south side of Dublin city for any physical education halls?

I am not aware that that is so. There are already some on the south side of the city.

Is it a reflection on the clout of the south city Deputies?

It is not a reflection on anyone.

My constituency got one.
