Vol. 319 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Two-Teacher Primary Schools.

13.

Mr. R. Barry

andMiss M. Barry asked the Minister for Education the present policy regarding the building and the maintenance of two-teacher primary schools.

My policy in regard to the question of the replacement of premises for two-teacher schools is to give special consideration to the circumstances of each individual school. I should say, however, that, in general, the provision of two-teacher schools, which would represent an investment for the future, would not be warranted in the long-term educational interest of the pupils of national schools.

The cost of maintenance of national school premises is a charge on local resources and is, primarily, the concern of the board of management of the school.

Questions Nos. 14 and 15 are to taken as written.
