Vol. 319 No. 10

Business of Dáil.

I move:

That, notwithstanding anything in Standing Orders and in the Resolution of the Dáil of 12th October, 1977 (as amended by the Resolution of 14th December, 1977) the following arrangements relating to business and sittings shall apply up to and including the 27th June, 1980——

(i) Questions on Thursdays shall be taken from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.;

(ii) the Dáil shall meet on Fridays at 10.30 a.m. and adjourn not later than 4 p.m.; and on Fridays——

(a) Business shall be confined to Estimates for the Public Service;

(b) if a division be demanded on an Estimate, the taking of such division shall be postponed until 8.30 p.m. on the next Wednesday on which the Dáil shall sit until that hour; and

(iii) the speeches of the member of the Government or Minister of State opening the debate on an Estimate and of the first speaker from Fine Gael and from the Labour Party shall not exceed one hour in each case and the speech of any other Member in the debate shall not exceed 45 minutes.

(Cavan-Monaghan): Will the Taoiseach confirm that it has also been agreed that there will be reasonable discussion on any Estimate which is introduced before the Estimate is dropped and another one taken up?

That is the understanding.

Question put and agreed to.
