Vol. 320 No. 1

Written Answers. - Widow's Pension.

264.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare the reason a reduced rate only of window's pension is being paid to a person (details supplied) in County Monaghan.

The person concerned was in receipt of a widow's non-contributory pension at the maximum rate on the basis of her means assessed on a British pension and the letting of a farm.

Following a re-investigation of her means it was ascertained that her income, derived from the British pension and the letting value of the farm, had increased substantially since the date of the last assessment in her case. Her pension was reduced with effect from 2 November 1979 to £11.60.

She appealed the decision and the case was referred to an appeals officer, who has now decided that she is entitled to pension at the rate of £15.50 per week from 2 November 1979, increased to £19.80 from 4 April 1980. This rate, which is below the maximum rate, is based on means not exceeding £7.00 per week.

A pension order book at the revised rate has been issued to the designated post office for collection by her and a payable order in respect of the adjustment due from 2 November 1979 has been issued direct to her.
