Vol. 321 No. 1

Order of Business.

It is proposed to take business in the following order: Nos. 7, 8, 9 (resumed), 10 and 11. Private Members' Business 7 p.m. to 8.30 p.m. will be item No. 80, by agreement.

On the Order of Business, may I ask the Taoiseach whether any action, by way of resolution or by way of order, is contemplated in connection with the reported decision concerning sanctions on trade with Iran and, if so, what the sanction will be?

There are two ministerial orders, one by the Minister for Industry, Commerce and Tourism and one by the Minister for Agriculture.

They have been made?

No, they will be made.

When will they be made?

Almost immediately—by Thursday next.

Will the House have a chance to consider them?

They will be laid on the table of the House, and if the Deputies wish to raise them, they can.

I take that point. I will point out, however, that we have had difficulties before when we wished to debate orders and time was not provided for debate.

There is a lot of pressure on the Government these days. If the Opposition parties wish time to be found to debate these orders, we shall ask the Whips to discuss that.

(Cavan-Monaghan): On the Order of Business, might I ask the Taoiseach when he proposes to introduce the Bill to revise the constituencies?

I should try to have it through the House before the summer recess, certainly, if possible.

May I ask the Taoiseach what would prevent it from being passed before the summer recess?

We cannot debate that.

Why should the Taoiseach consider that it might not be passed before the summer recess?

There is no reason why it should not be. It is simply a matter of time. We have a fair amount of business to be got through and the Whips are endeavouring to make arrangements to get a certain programme passed.

The Taoiseach can count on the participation of the Fine Gael and Labour Whips.

I do not anticipate any difficulty with this legislation.

May I ask the Taoiseach if it is to follow the commission's report?

Yes. Does the Deputy wish to make any changes?

No, we are quite happy.

We want one change in here.
