Vol. 321 No. 1

Written Answers. - Horse Riding Establishment Regulations.

229.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he is empowered to introduce regulations similar to regulations introduced in Northern Ireland this month governing horse riding establishments in the interests of animal welfare and human safety and if so, if he will introduce such regulations.

Part III of the Horse Industry Act 1970 provides for the making of regulations for the licensing of horse riding establishments. The regulations could cater, inter alia, for all aspects of horse welfare at such establishments. Part III of the Act has not, however, yet been brought into operation but suggestions that this should now be done are at present being considered by Bord na gCapall. I am awaiting their advice in the matter.
