I would refer the Deputy to my reply to a question on 4 June 1980 in which I stated that negotiations are taking place between officials of the Olympic Council of Ireland and my Department on the question of grant aid to the Olympic Council in respect of expenses incurred during the period 1 January to 16 May 1980.
I am not yet in a position to outline how the balance of grant-aid which would have been allocated to the Olympic Council in respect of sending Irish athletes to the 1980 Olympic Games will now be used but I can assure the Deputy that it will be spent on the promotion of sport.
