Vol. 322 No. 11

Written Answers. - Betelgeuse Disaster.

194.

asked the Minister for Transport if any claim has been lodged by the State for damage to beaches, tourism and the environment arising out of the Betelgeuse disaster in Bantry Bay.

Notice of my intention to claim compensation in respect of costs incurred by public authorities for oil pollution damage in connection with the Betelgeuse disaster was served on the owners of the vessel on 11 September, 1979. The claim will be made when the remaining portion of the Betelgeuse has been removed and the cost of the damage has been fully assessed.
