Vol. 322 No. 11

Written Answers. - Comprehensive Schools.

89.

asked the Minister for Education if he will give details of the system used to select applicants for school places in each comprehensive school when there are more applicants than places; and if he will ensure that all parents of prospective pupils at such schools receive on request a written statement giving details of the allocation system.

The conduct of each comprehensive school is a matter for the board of management. Accordingly, the system of selecting pupils is a normal function of the board. I would, therefore, normally be reluctant to intervene in regard to the manner in which school places are allocated, but I will arrange for any specific complaints brought to my attention or that of my Department to be investigated.
