Vol. 322 No. 11

Written Answers. - Financial Aid to Private Secondary Schools.

88.

asked the Minister for Education if he suggested to private secondary schools, as reported in a newspaper (details supplied), that major changes in funding arrangements could be made and financial aid improved if the Comptroller and Auditor General were given permission to deal with school finances; if he will outline the changes proposed and the increased level of financial support involved; and if he will make a statement on his policy on the matter.

In the course of the discussion to which this report relates I drew attention to the basic legal and constitutional differences between private voluntary secondary schools and other post-primary schools with which comparisons were being made. Any change in funding arrangements is a matter for consultation with the managerial authorities and would of course be subject to the approval of the Government.
