Vol. 323 No. 4

Order of Business .

: It is proposed to take Item No. 6 (Resumed).

: I wish to raise on the Adjournment the subject matter of Question No. 217 on yesterday's Order Paper.

: I will communicate with the Deputy.

: I wish to bring to the attention of the Ceann Comhairle a matter in respect of the functions of this House and the rights of Members in which I believe he has a function. It is the precedent, as far as I am aware, that when Members put down questions for written reply those written replies are available in the General Office at the end of Question Time. A disgraceful practice has now been adopted, by the Minister for Education in particular, by refusing to let Deputies have replies to questions until, in yesterday's case, 5.10 p.m. It seems to be quite obvious that he is attempting to delay or suppress the publication of politically damaging information by sitting on replies to written question in this manner.

: I will look into that matter.
