Vol. 324 No. 1

Written Answers. - County Roscommon Sewerage Scheme.

405.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he will allocate funds for the provision of a sewerage scheme in Knockcroghery, County Roscommon, which has been recommended by Roscommon County Council and is listed as a No. 1 priority in the sanitary schedule; if he will confirm the date of receipt of the contract documents; and the estimated cost of same.

While I am aware of the Knockcroghery sewerage scheme's priority at local level, the council's proposals for the scheme must be considered in the context of the amount of capital available for water and sewerage schemes, the number of schemes in progress or about to commence, including a number of schemes in progress in the Roscommon area and two further schemes which should commence shortly.

It is not possible at this stage to say when a decision can be conveyed to the local authority on the revised contract documents for the scheme which were received in my Department on 18 July 1978, when it was estimated to cost £60,000.

The question of an allocation will not arise until the scheme has been fully approved and a loan sanctioned.
