Vol. 324 No. 1

Written Answers. - North Tipperary County Council's Finances.

406.

asked the Minister for the Environment the financial allocation being granted to North Tipperary County Council to meet his recent waiving of the rates to ratepayers in the £40-£60 valuation category as no circular concerning its operation has been received to date from his Department; and the effect this directive will have on the council's finances for the years 1980 and 1981.

In a circular letter issued by my Department on 4 November 1980 county councils were notified of the remission of the second moiety of the current year's rates in respect of land valuations in the £40 to £60 category. The cost of the remission is estimated to be approximately £270,000 in the case of Tipperary (NR) County Council. As indicated in the circular letter, the full cost of the remission will be recouped to local authorities by the Exchequer during the current year.
