Vol. 324 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Maggot Fly Control.

10.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he is aware that much of the sheep dip used in 1980 for the control of the maggot fly proved to be ineffective; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Arising out of representations received by my Department expressing dissatisfaction at the results of dipping against maggot fly in County Galway this year, I have arranged for an officer of the Department to attend a meeting which will be held locally this week to discuss the matter. Pending the outcome of that meeting I think it would be preferable not to comment further at this stage.

The Minister might express an opinion on it sometime later?

The meeting is tomorrow and I shall be glad to hear its outcome.

Is that an imported preparation that is in use?

There have been complaints about certain types that have been used. They will be discussed at the meeting tomorrow, in Athenry mart to be precise.
