Vol. 324 No. 7

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Sorting Office.

30.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if reports that new machinery at the sorting office, Sheriff Street, Dublin, is not being used due to an industrial dispute are correct; and if so, the steps being taken to rectify the matter.

There is no new machinery in the sorting office which is not being used. Some of the original equipment in the office is worn out and a contract was placed in October 1979 to renew or replace it. Alternative temporary arrangements for parcel sorting have to be made while the contract work is being carried out. It has not been possible so far to secure the agreement of the staff to these temporary arrangements, but the matter is still under discussion with the union representing the staff concerned.
