Vol. 324 No. 8

Written Answers. - Telephone Service.

329.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will put an automatic answering device on the former telephone number of a person (details supplied) referring callers to the new number in view of the fact that the personnel answering "changed number" calls are already heavily burdened.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will give approval to the application for telephone service of a person (details supplied) in Dublin whose application in September 1978 was approved for transfer by his Department; if he is aware that in August 1979 he was placed on the priority list and promised a telephone within four weeks, while in May 1980 he was informed that there was no record of his application; and if he will have a telephone installed as a matter of urgency.

It has not been possible to meet this application, which is recorded since September 1978, because of the non-availability of cabling in the area that would allow of doing so. The possibility of providing service quickly for this applicant, who is regarded as a priority one, is however being re-examined.

There is no record of the promise of service referred to.

331.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when a telephone service will be provided for a person (details supplied) in Dublin, in view of the urgency of the matter.

Provision of service is dependent on a cabling scheme being carried out in the area. Because of the volume of other urgent engineering work on hands, this scheme is unlikely to be undertaken for at least another year.

332.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs whether the telephone instruments now being installed in the Wedgewood estate, Sandyford, Dublin, 14, will be connected within the normal 12-week period after installation; and, if not, why.

It is expected that the phones will be connected within the time quoted.

333.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if, in view of the number of telephone calls to the Department of Agriculture TB office, Ennis, County Clare and of the fact that the telephone appears to be constantly engaged, he will install a second telephone line there.

It is expected that an additional line will be provided within the next week or so.
