Vol. 324 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Tramore Street Cleaning.

40.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he is aware that the business people of Tramore, County Waterford had to contribute to have street cleaning carried out over the weekends during the summer of 1980; the reason why this public service had to be financed by private citizens; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I am advised that a voluntary group of business people in Tramore, County Waterford collected contributions to pay Waterford County Council to carry out the weekend sweeping of streets in Tramore during the tourist season this year. I understand that Waterford County Council decided that work at overtime and weekend rates should be curtailed this year. The sweeping of streets during weekends in the holiday season was suspended, therefore, in Tramore and in other resorts in County Waterford this year. The allocation of the funds which they have available to them from revenue sources is entirely a matter for the county council.

Question No. 41 has gone for written reply.
