Vol. 324 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Waterford Bridge.

39.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he will make an up-to-date statement on the provision of a high level bridge for Waterford; and whether EEC funds will be available for the construction of this bridge.

As indicated to the Deputy in reply to a question put down by him on 5 December 1979, Waterford Corporation were informed on 12 June 1979 that a public local inquiry would be held into their application for a bridge order for a new high level bridge when the corporation had clarified the position in regard to the acquisition of necessary lands for the bridge and its approach roads. At the same time, it was intimated that the replacement of Redmond Bridge would afford the corporation an opportunity to review the implications of the high level bridge proposal, particularly in regard to environmental and financial aspects and present and future traffic needs, and that information of this nature would need to be available for presentation at an inquiry into the corporation's application for a bridge order. It is a matter for Waterford Corporation to compile the necessary information for submission to my Department.

Consideration of the financing of a scheme for a high level bridge and necessary approach roads will not arise until the scheme is further developed.
