Vol. 325 No. 1

Written Answers. - Dublin Proposed Rapid Rail System.

374.

asked the Minister for Transport if he will outline Government policy in relation to the proposed rapid rail transit system in the Dublin area; and an estimate of its cost.

As I indicated in reply to questions on 25 November, I have asked the Dublin Transportation Task Force to assess the alternative public transport systems set out in CIE's Dublin Rail Rapid Transit Study and the major road proposals for the Dublin area. This evaluation will help to establish the priorities in relation to investment in transport infrastructure in Dublin. CIE estimate the cost, in 1980 terms, of the rail rapid transit system recommended in the study at £290 million.
