Vol. 325 No. 3

Written Answers. - Treatment of Alcoholics.

269.

asked the Minister for Health if he is aware of the number of alcoholic cases presenting themselves to The Hanly Centre, The Mews, Eblana Ave., Dún Laoghaire, County Dublin and of the lack of hospital facilities to deal with certain cases dealt with by the centre; and the action it is proposed to take to provide the required hospital facilities.

I am aware that there have been some problems associated with the provision of services for alcoholic cases at the Hanly Centre. The Inspector of Mental Hospitals has had discussions with the Director of the Hanly Centre in regard to problems related to the admission of alcoholics for detoxification and I will pursue with the Eastern Health Board the question of resolving any difficulties which still persist.

I will communicate with the Deputy when my inquiries are completed.
