Vol. 325 No. 4

Written Answers. - Local Authorities Extra Allocations

430.

asked the Minister for the Environment the amount of the additional expenditure of £97 million allocated to each public body and local authority referred to in reply to a parliamentary question of 27 November 1980.

As indicated in reply to Question No. 22 of November 1980, £35 million of the additional £97 million provided under the national understanding was for services in the local government sector for which I am responsible. The following is the breakdown of the £35 million: £12 million for local authority housing; £7 million for house purchase loans; £5 million for road works; £6.75 million for sanitary services; £0.25 million for recreational facilities; £4 million for housing grants paid by my Department.

In so far as local authority housing is concerned, I wish to refer the Deputy to my reply to Question No. 325 of 23 October 1980 which shows a breakdown of the additional capital allocations for local authority housing notified to the various local authorities in September 1980. The total included the additional £12 million approved by the Government under the national understanding. Of the £0.25 million provided for recreational facilities, sums of £50,000 and £10,000 have been drawn on the Local Loans Fund by Limerick County Borough and Clonmel Borough Corporations respectively. Allocations made to individual local authorities arising from the additional money provided for sanitary services, road works and house purchase loans are set out in the tabular statement below, which I propose, with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, to have circulated with the Official Report.
