Vol. 325 No. 6

Written Answers. - Social Welfare Payments.

235.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare the reason for the delay in paying unemployment benefit to a person (details supplied) in County Waterford; and when payment will issue.

The reason for the delay in paying unemployment benefit in this case is that inquiries were necessary to determine the employment record of the person concerned before his entitlement to unemployment benefit could be established. The investigations were recently completed and payment of all benefit due was issued on 5 December 1980.

236.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare the reason for the delay in paying disability benefit to a person (details supplied) in County Waterford; and when payment will issue.

The person concerned claimed disability benefit from 18 August 1980 to 20 September 1980 when he was certified fit to resume work. He was not qualified for payment as there was no record in my Department of contributions paid in respect of him. Following inquiries it was established that he had been in insurable employment for sufficient weeks to qualify him for benefit, and payment of all disability benefit due issued to him on 2 December 1980.

The question of his entitlement to pay-related benefit is being investigated and payment, if any, due will be made as soon as possible.

237.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare the reason for the delay in paying unemployment assistance to a person (details supplied) in County Waterford; and when payment will issue.

Payment of unemployment assistance was disallowed to the person concerned on 2 July 1980 on the grounds that he had failed to avail of an offer of employment. He appealed against this decision but an appeals officer upheld the disallowance on 15 July 1980. The claimant has not been in touch with my Department since that date.
