Vol. 325 No. 6

Written Answers. - Advertisements in Irish-language Publications.

327.

asked the Minister for the Public Service the amount spent by his Department, or by agencies operating under the aegis of his Department, on paid advertisements in Irish-language publications in the past 12 months, specifying the total amount payable to each of the publications concerned; and if he will outline his policy in relation to advertising in such periodicals.

There was no expenditure by my Department on advertisements in Irish-language publications in the past 12 months.

In the case of the Civil Service Commission a sum of £37.50 was paid to an Irish-language publication in respect of advertising in that publication during the same period.

It is the policy of my Department to consider all relevant publications when it is necessary to insert an advertisement. However it is very seldom that my Department does in fact advertise.

The Civil Service Commission advertise vacancies on a regular weekly basis by way of group advertisement in the Dublin and Cork national morning papers. In addition, in relation to particular positions, the commission consider as necessary the placing of advertisements in other publications, including Irish-language publications.
