Vol. 326 No. 1

Written Answers. - Shankill (Dublin) School Development.

321.

asked the Minister for Education the current position concerning the development of phase II of Scoil Mhuire, Rathsallagh, Shankill, County Dublin; and if he is aware that a further 90 children will have to be admitted to this school and that as a consequence two additional classrooms are urgently required.

The submission by the school authority's architect of sketch plans for a new 16 classroom school at Rathsallagh, County Dublin, is awaited by the Commissioners of Public Works. In the meantime, the question of arrangements for provision for anticipated additional enrolments next September is being examined in my Department.

322.

asked the Minister for Education if he is aware that a number of pupils in the Shankill area of County Dublin will reach second-level school-going age in September next; and when it is expected that work will commence on the second-level school at Shankill.

My Department are examining the question of the future provision to be made for second level education in the Shankill area and are continuing their negotiations to secure a site for a second-level school. Pending further progress in relation to the acquisition of a site and subsequent planning of the proposed building, it is not possible at this stage to say when building work may commence.
