*The cheese subsidy which was financed totally from Exchequer funds was operative between 1 April 1977 and 16 January 1978. The subsidy was introduced at rates of 3.05p — 4.28p/lb depending on the type of cheese. It was increased in June 1977 to 5.58 — 7.81p/lb and again in July 1977 to 7.23 — 10.13p/lb.
