Vol. 326 No. 1

Written Answers. - Hide Prices.

339.

asked the Minister for Agriculture the price of hides each year since 1973.

Hide prices are quoted by hide merchants on a week-to-week basis to individual sellers, both factories and butchers. They can vary in the light of the seller's quality record and the degree of trimming and dressing with which the hides are offered to the merchant. As no hide auctions are held in this country, an annual price could only be calculated by collating a vast number of individual transactions, for which detailed particulars are not available to my Department.
