Vol. 326 No. 1

Written Answers. - Westmeath Supplementary Welfare Application.

366.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he is aware that the Midland Health Board have refused supplementary welfare to a person (details supplied) in County Westmeath, whose only means is a non-contributory old age pension; and if he will outline the method of assessment laid down for investigating such cases.

Every application for an additional payment under the supplementary welfare allowances scheme is dealt with on its merits and it depends on the circumstances of each individual case and the needs of the person concerned as to whether or not a payment will be made.

In the case in question the applicant is an old age non-contributory pensioner receiving £21.00 a week and residing with his unmarried son who works casual days as a painter. The Midland Health Board consider them to be in reasonably good circumstances and do not therefore consider that any payment is warranted.
