Vol. 326 No. 2

Written Answers. - Unemployment Assistance.

134.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare when a person (details supplied) in County Galway will be paid unemployment assistance.

The claim to unemployment assistance of the person concerned has been disallowed on the grounds that his means exceed the statutory limit. He has lodged an appeal against the disallowance and his case is being referred to an appeals officer for determination.

135.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare the reason for the delay in dealing with the claim of a person (details supplied) in County Galway for an increase in unemployment assistance since April 1980.

The reason for the delay in dealing with the case of the person concerned is that he was one of a large number of smallholder recipients of unemployment assistance whose means were assessed on the national value of their holdings and who applied to have their means factually assessed. This imposed considerable extra work on the staff of the Department.

The claimant continued to receive unemployment assistance without a break while his means were being investigated and he has been notified that factual assessment of his means would not be to his advantage. He has the right of appeal against this decision and a form for this purpose is obtainable at his nearest local office.
