Vol. 326 No. 2

Written Answers. - River Corrib Bridge.

190.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he is aware of the chronic need for an additional bridge across the River Corrib at Galway; and when finance will be provided for this much needed project.

I am at present awaiting final proposals from Galway Corporation for the acquisition of property necessary for the approach roads to the proposed new bridge over the Corrib at Galway city. As soon as this information is available I will be making arrangements for the holding of the public inquiries in relation to the council's application for a bridge order and the compulsory acquisition of land, should this prove necessary. A grant of £170,000 was allocated to this project in 1980. A further sum of £350,000 has been allocated for 1981. Road grants totalling £520,000 are therefore available to Galway Corporation at present towards financing the project.
