Vol. 326 No. 3

Written Answers. - Budget Savings.

235.

andMr. T.J. Fitzpatrick (Cavan-Monaghan) asked the Minister for Social Welfare if savings of £2.5 million in social welfare in 1978 were achieved by the elimination of abuses as indicated in the 1978 budget; and, if not, how much saving was achieved and by what method.

While it is not possible at this stage to quantity the effect of the measures taken towards the elimination of abuses of social welfare services I am satisfied that savings amounting to £2.5 million were achieved in 1978 as a result of these measures.
