asked the Minister for the Public Service the amount and percentage by which public service pay in 1980 exceeded that for 1979; the amount attributable to national pay agreements; and the amount attributable to special pay increases.

The estimated outturn for public service pay of civil servants, industrial civil servants, gardaí, Defence Forces, teachers and health employees in 1980 exceeded that for 1979 by £352.7 million or 35.4 per cent. The amounts attributable to national pay agreements, including carryforward effects, and special pay increases are estimated at £151 million and £137 million respectively.
