Vol. 326 No. 4

Written Answers. - Bantry (Cork) Speed Limit Signs.

269.

asked the Minister for the Environment the reason for the delay in sanctioning the erection of speed limit signs at Kealkil, Bantry, County Cork, and whether he will now, as a matter of urgency, sanction these, in view of the considerable dangers arising from speeding through the village.

Proposals for the revision of speed limits in County Cork, which include a recommendation for a 30 miles per hour limit at Kealkil, have been submitted to my Department by Cork County Council. My Department has been in communication with the County Council on their proposals and clarification on a number of aspects necessary for the drafting of statutory Regulations is still outstanding. When the essential information is made available the drafting of Regulations can proceed without delay.

The provision of the necessary speed limit signs consequent on the making of the Regulations would be a matter for Cork County Council.
